This 3-in-1 feeder consists of 3 compartments, 2 for concentrate, salt block or supplements and 1 large compartment for about 15kg of hay. Feeding this way will save an average of 20% of hay. The feeder is made of food approved material. The feeder has rounded corners and no sharp edges. It is completely safe to use in stables. This is a product from the Natural Feeding brand.
Slow Feeding
Slow Feeding; the natural way of feeding. The natural position for a horse to eat is with its head down for 17 hours a day. When we put our horses in stalls, it is not possible for them to graze so we give them hay. Most hay racks we know of hang high on the wall, in this case the dust falls down straight into the horse's nostrils. The digestion also does not work properly and this can cause colic.
Continuous eating stimuli
We have created the habit of giving horses 2 shillings of hay in the morning and then again in evening. The horse will eat this quickly, then they have to wait 10 hours before the next meal appears. During that time, the horse's brain will continuously transmit stimuli to eat.
Eating more slowly
In the beginning when you use the Natural feeder the horse will eat the whole feeder as we have taught him. When this happens you fill it up completely again. He will very quickly realise that hay is constantly available to him and will start eating more slowly this 17 hours a day. That is Slow Feeding!
