INFRARED THERMOMETER
This noncontact thermometer is easy in use for detecting inflammations, hoof blisters, hot spots, cold spots, back problems. Just pull the trigger, aim, and read the temperature on the back lighted display. The best time to check your horse is when it is calm in its box.
It is of big importance that you compare the both sides of the horse at the exact same spot, under the same angle and at the same measuring distance. The 2 spots should have the same temperature. When you notice a difference of 2°C, this should be taken as a warning.
NOTICE that the red laserlight is for aiming and not for measuring. If the distance from the target is 10 centimeter, you will be measuring 1 centimeter under the red laser mark.
DO NOT STARE INTO THE LASER LIGHT.
Artefacts:
Don't put the horse in the sun, one side will be hotter than the other.
Wait a while before measuring if the horse has just been laying down;
if you have just taken of the bandages or blanket;
if the horse has been resting on 3 legs for a while;
if you have just cooled the horse's legs;
if you have just put a shoe under your horse.
Daily use will help you to prevent problems and as you know, preventing is better than curing...
Good luck!
